I send my 5 year old daughter Elliott to ballet classes at the South Florida Ballet and have for 2 years. I’ve grown so fond of the studio and the owner, Jennifer Rose. I learned a bit about Jennifer when choosing the studio and found out she was a ballerina herself. She has two beautiful daughters who are also ballerinas, and her youngest daughter Amelia is a senior in high school this year.
I’ve always known that the Miami high school senior sessions market isn’t quite the same as pretty much everywhere else. As long as I’ve lived here, it never has been. My portrait sessions season coincides with Hurricane season, so there are a lot of reschedules that can occur as an outdoor photographer. I’ve also been told that Dade County Schools contracts large studios. That means smaller boutique businesses like mine don’t really get to tap into the market. So needless to say, I was so honored when Jennifer asked me to photograph Amelia.
When I asked Jennifer what sort of session Amelia wanted, she was quick to tell me how low key Amelia is. She didn’t need or want any outfit changes and she was interested in shooting on the beach. And you know me, I’m always willing to shoot on a beach! So I met Amelia and Jennifer at Virginia Key on a beautiful overcast day and it could not have been more perfect. I love how the clouds provided me with such a soft light. But I could still get some amazing pops of color too.
I found Amelia, with her gorgeous hair and style reminiscent of Taylor Swift, so easy to photograph. These are just a small handful of the photos I captured.
I am a South Florida wedding photographer also available for portrait sessions. I travel all over South Florida regularly and I am also willing and able to travel both nationally and internationally. To book Courtney Jones Photography for a photo session or wedding, contact me here!
